FLOOD PHOTOS
Contrary to rumours, Wolston Park Golf Club is not closing, rather the oppsite - we are working together to reopen and resume trading as soon as possible.
Again we thank all volunteers for their dedication to WPGC and we look forward to see you playing the course again soon.

Thank you to all our volunteers so far, you have made a huge difference!!

The 18th flag was still standing strong when flood waters started to recede.

The force of the wtaer ripped posts held in concrete out of the ground.

Clubhouse furniture littered the front lawn, and the concrete surrounds were inches deep in silt.

The silt caused a hazard, being incredibly slippery it was one of the first things we had to clean up.

Whilst we removed what we could before the flood came, the kitchen was hit hard with fridges, benches, equipment and thousands of dollars of stock lost.

The function room will unfortunately be out of order for several months. The damage was extensive.

Incredible to believe, was lost fridges which were swept away, yet a stapler remained on the bar.

The mens toilets had doors off hinges and absolutely covered in silt.
We hope to have 9 holes up and running by Wednesday or Thursday, weather permitting.
Sunday 16th January 2011.
Working Bee Saturday 15th January - meet at the Clubhouse at 9am. Tasks will be assigned and lunch provided.
Friday 14th January 2011.
Our Clubhouse was 6 feet underwater. It's full of silt, stock is destroyed, fridges gone and the new carpet destroyed and ripped out. If you want to volunteer to help in the cleanup of both the Clubhouse and course, please call Brett on 0407 101 478.
Thursday 13th January 2011.
13 of our 18 holes and our Clubhouse were underwater.

This first photo was taken as the river rose on Tuesday. A handful of Committee and staff took what we could to higher ground. Unfortunately our losses will be greater than what was able to be saved, but no human lives were lost in our local community.
The following photos were taken Wednesday 13th January between 11am and 3pm.

The entrance is too dangerous to cross with the force of the crossing water causing rapids across the road.

Roof of the Caretakers residence is just visible above the water level - approx 12 noon.

When we left at around 3pm, the water was over this path...

At approximately 2pm, the water in the Clubhouse was shoulder height .

Our chest freezer along with many other items are somewhere in the Brisbane River...

Corner of Boyce Rd, looking up to the new Dr Henry Ellerton bridge. Doug's Place above the 7th ladies tee can be seen on the left side of this photo behind the trees.

Above is from the 11th fairway looking back toward our entrance gates/road. Holes, 6, 7, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17 & 18 are well and truly out of play.
The cleanup will be exhausting and will take weeks. Volunteers will be vital to the survival of our Club. When we have more information and the water receeds information will be posted regarding plans for the cleanup. |
